It’s so gingery… | Orlando Children’s Photography

Piper has been completely obsessed with gingerbread houses and gingerbread men this year…I really think this obsession began when our neighbors, who happen to be quite “spirited”….put out a lighted mini gingerbread village…along with..a blowup Grinch, a full on baby Jesus manger scene, three over-sized yard ornaments, a blow up Santa in a snow-globe..and the topper of it all..was the lighted wire alligator with tail swaying in the air..yes..a lighted spectacle for all to see…

Anyway…she saw that, the gingerbread house..and from that moment..all was gingery!  I thought nothing would please her more, than to decorate her very own. So, I got the houses ready..pulled out the frosting and bowls of assorted candies and let them go to town. Now, I have to tell you..that years ago..there would have been NO..”going-to-town”..I would have had a blueprint of the exact way each house was to be decorated..which candy went where, how to pattern..basically sucking the joy from the entire decorating process..but, I’m ever so happy to announce..I’ve lightened up a bit! I gave them the frosting, the candy..and sat back and snapped my snappies…

They had a blast..they were sticky..covered from head to toe in sugary sweetness…but a good time was had by all..they proudly displayed their houses on the kitchen table..and by weeks end I think there might have been, maybe..five pieces of candy left on the houses…and funny, that NO ONE knew, what had happened..or how the candy continued to disappear…but one night when I asked..Piper said “It’s ok, it’s still so beautiful…it’s still so gingery…”

I had to shoot fast…we had just dropped Raygan at cheer and were headed home, I pass this field at least 10 times everyday..but this day, as I passed it..something made me pull over..Sayler was in the back, popped her head up from her book..and said…”Mom, no!” She knew, mama had pulled off into an empty field..that could only mean one thing, well it could mean that Adler needed to take a…well, you know, but he wasn’t with us..so she knew it was her I was after… I told her that it had been so long since I had taken any of her..and basically begged…she put her hand up..and said..”5 minutes”…as she was getting out..she took a glance of herself in the mirror..and started to back out..only a couple hours earlier, she was in the clinic at school sick with a migraine, her hair was a mess, so she thought..and she announced that she was wearing the hat…

These are so much warmer than I usually go, but really, the sun was setting the field glowing w/ yellows and oranges…not crazy about the pink sweater…but, that’s what she had on..anyway, I really like these..a lot! She is growing up so fast..already nine, she’s always been my little sidekick..my mini-me..so sweet, so helpful..and oh so sassy….

When we got back in the car, I looked at her and told her thanks..for playing..and she replied with…”did that fill ya up for awhile??” Yes, she has a smart streak running through her as well (wonder where she gets that ) She then said it was “kinda fun….kinda!”

We’ve had lots going on here..LOTS, way too much to keep up with really…but, I think…I hope…no, I know..everything, in the end will be just as it’s suppose to be…and…from where I’m sitting right now..I can see that the next two weeks are going to be fantastic…all sessions are done..yes..I repeat..DONE!  My house is warmly decorated and has the scent of holly berries and cinnamon floating about…cookies have been baked, costumes have been made, plays have been attended and 95% of gifts have been bought. For the next two weeks, my calendar is empty…with the exception of a few parties..and being empty is good…I like it. Nothing to do..but snuggle on the couch watching Frosty and Rudolph, nothing to do except make fudge and MORE cookies, nothing to do but read Christmas stories and sing Christmas songs…to go see Santa, and to make gingerbread houses…nothing to do, but enjoy the down time, enjoy my kids, enjoy the season…

I took my kids on a little wagon ride last night, it was dark..a bit chilly, well..not too chilly..but..they brought blankets and I pulled them around the neighborhood. Our version of a “one horse open sleigh” if you will..hey, we’re in Florida..no snow, no sleigh..so we compromise..with a wagon and blankets. We walked up and down the streets..looking at the lights, the garland and red bows, the white-light electrical reindeer, the inflatable Santa’s…and as I was pulling…I looked back and looked at them..the look in their eyes..it was magical..and I knew..at the moment that this was what it was all about..creating memories for them..memories that they one day would tell their own children about..creating traditions that they could carry on…and to me..just pulling them around in a wagon..was just that..pulling them around in a wagon..but to them..it was more…much more…

So bring on the next 10 days…10 days of ho-ho-ing..reindeer food making…Christmas jammie wearing…candy cane licking…mistletoe kissing…10 days of living, loving, laughing…10 days…make them count…

So, thinking…you might wanna, maybe see some pictures…I’ve had so many sessions that I haven’t had a chance to share…but this one is one that I shared on a forum I belong to..all web-sized and ready to go…This session was a bit different for me…After going out on a location hunt and stumbling across this abandon house…I knew I wanted to try something a bit moody…I had a perfectly gorgeous little girl, a serious girl according to mom…so I went with it…processing was a bit different for me as well..a bit heavy, but in the end..I like it..and more importantly..mom LOVED it…cannot wait to go back here..so many possibilities..spots I didn’t even get to..may take my own girlies here soon…maybe…

Wow..1:30am..time to turn in..big day tomorrow..Santa Claus-ing and gingerbread-ing…pictures to come..and remember..the next ten days…make them memorable…

Total Nonsense

December 8, 2008 | Posted in misc.

Why do I do such things?? I have no clue…but I warned you that every so often a bit of nonsense would pop up..and well, tonight’s the night.  I’m sitting here eating these Brach’s Peppermint Nougat things with a cup of hot choco..and I feeling quite merry.  These peppermints..omgosh..so yum! I’m not usually one to enjoy anything peppermint-ish, but these..I’m hooked..my latest thing…I have ummmm..let’s just say “lots” of wrappers here beside me…go get some..now!  Anyway, how it is, that I came across this, I have no clue..and what it was that made me sit here and make this little ditty..again..clueless…and even more absurd is that fact that I actually paid $4.99 to download and keep it..(just so you know..I’m so laughing right now…finding humour in myself (WOW, did I just put a “u” in humour..yes I did…) anyway..humor..

It’s late friends, and anyone who knows me well..knows that I get a little giddy..slaphappy  when I’m tired, and often end up doing things such as this…before I knew it BAM..I was feverishly looking thru my files trying to find elf-like images of us and I just got carried away..hey, it happens…

So, watch and  enjoy..laugh out loud, it’s ok..noone’s looking…I found it humorous..quite humorous actually..and the fact that they had a disco theme…well that just had my name ALL.OVER.IT..yes…I love me some “Stayin’ Alive”…

For you late nighters, you may be the only ones to see it..it may be gone by morning….so watch, and enjoy…but before you do..if you have anything pepper-minty on hand..grab that first, it will make your viewing pleasure that much more…well, pleasurable….click here——>Elfin’Disco
